Front Page Express

OBJECTIVE: to download and install Front Page Express on your PC. Front Page Express does not have a fully automatic installation utility, so we need to walk it through the steps of installing on a hard drive. This is not a difficult procedure but it must be done precisely according to instructions, or you may have a difficult following along with later lessons.

LESSON TIME: Approx. 20-30 minutes.

To Download Front Page Express to a PC:

Click the Download button.
This file is a self executing ZIP file that has the
proper directory structure for
Front Page already set up.

When the Download Window pops open, click the SAVE button.

Click on the MY COMPUTER icon

Click on the C: Drive

Find the PROGRAM FILES folder and double click on it to open it.

Now, click SAVE.

When the Download is finished, click on the OPEN FOLDER button.

Scroll down the RIGHT SIDE of the window, until you see the FPX.EXE file and doubleclick on that file.

You will get a warning that this is an unknown publisher. Ignore the warning, it's a standard error message. If you are confident of the source of this file, then click the RUN button.

The next window will ask to install in directory c:\, but change this to c:\program files and hit the ENTER key

The program will install.

You can delete the FPX.EXE file if you want to. Or, you can save it.

Do not close the Window yet! We're not done...

Click the VIEW menu at the top of the window, and click REFRESH.

Now scroll through the list on the RIGHT SIDE of the window, until you see the new FPX directory.

Double Click on the FPX directory

Double Click on the BIN directory

Highlight the FPXPRESS.EXE file and then RIGHT CLICK. Click on CREATE SHORTCUT.

When the shortcut appears, DRAG it off the window and onto your computer DESKTOP. You only want to drag the shortcut, don't move anything else!

Now, go to your desktop.

You can RIGHT CLICK on the shortcut and RENAME it if you want to.

You have just installed FrontPage Express on your computer. And you did it the Old Fashioned way.

Now you can click on your Shortcut to open Front Page Express...
