We use most of these wonderful free programs and services. In most cases I have upgraded to the paid version, but the free programs and services are fully functional and are excellent.

FREE WEB HOSTING:

At FREESERVERS.COM you can get free Web Hosting. They provide 1 gig of data transfer per month. Their base level monthly fee for a paid upgrade is $3.99 per month:

FREE PHOTO HOSTING:

Free Photo Hosting at Photobucket. You can make a SLIDESHOW in Photobucket, and then LINK to it from GeoCities. Very kewl addition to a web site!!

If you link to photos at Photobucket, be sure to resize them first. Otherwise your photos will look a lot different on your web site than they do at Photobucket. Photobucket resizes the appearance of the photo without resizing the photo itself. It's better to physically resize your photos using a photo editor software. Don't depend on Photobucket for editing.

PICASA PHOTO HOSTING:

The Picasa website offers free photo hosting as well as a free program for photo editing:

Here is a free HTML program that Christopher recommends. I've used it, and it's one of the best I've seen. I don't like the "publish" feature, but you don't have to use that. Just use an FTP program instead.

FRONT PAGE EXPRESS

I use Front Page Express for making my HTML pages. It is a free program that was distributed with Internet Explorer 4. Instructions for downloading and installing Front Page Express are on Lesson 1 of this tutorial site.

FRONT PAGE TUTORIALS

I use Front Page Express primarily, and the good news is: it's Free. I do a lot of work with HTML directly but I do even more of my HTML pages in Front Page Express. It's hard to find downloads for this free program anymore but here's a great site. You can download an English version, or Spanish. They have an FTP option if you'd rather download it that way:

File Transfer Utility, or FTP programs, are very necessary for loading your pages to the web. Here are two free programs that are very good:

PICASA is a free photo editing, photo albums and thumbs viewer from Google. Very nice program:

FREE GRAPHICS / LINKWARE

There are many sites online that offer free web site graphics. Some are basic colors and backgrounds and buttons. Other sites offer incredibly beautiful original designs that are free for the taking: all they ask is that you put a link on your site, acknowledging where you got the graphics from.

Get your site listed on Search Engines, for FREE. You just need to add their avatar to your home page:
